Abstract
New eta photoproduction experiments have been performed at MAMI (Mainz) and ELSA (Bonn). The parameters of the resonance S 11(1535) have been determined with high reliability. The contribution of other resonances is discussed. Eta photoproduction from the deuteron allows to deduce the isoscalar and isovector amplitude of the excitation of the S 11 (1535).
