Muon Catalyzed Fusion

Abstract

Reviewing the discoveries of muon catalyzed fusion and resonant mesomolecule formation, the data on dµd and dµt fusion are presented and the fast dµt fusion cycle is discussed in detail. The newest developments in µα sticking, muon transfer and resonant dµt formation are shown. Epithermal µt atoms and large resonances at eV energies play the dominant role for the dµt kinetic cycle. These phenomena are enhanced in triple mixtures due to the Ramsauer-Townsend effect. In solid targets, µd and µt beams can be produced in vacuum allowing direct studies of µCF reactions.
