First Results on Proton-Proton Scattering and Near Threshold Two Meson Production at COSY

The new Cooler Synchrotron COSY at the Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany, has taken up operation and provides a (cooled) proton beam with maximum energy of 2.5 GeV. Experimental areas are available for internal beam experiments using the circulating COSY beam even during acceleration as well as for external experiments at dedicated beamlines for the extracted beam. The two experiments reported here, EDDA and MOMO, represent one of each type of these experiments.
