Abstract
In this lecture I will try to throw some light on two of the most important issues which characterize Gödel’s philosophy of mathematics, according to the way in which they appear both in the published and the unpublished writings. These issues are the theses that (i) mathematical propositions are analytic; (ii) there exists a close analogy between the formal and the empirical sciences.
