Zusammenfassung
In diesem Kapitel, das im Zusammenhang mit Problemen am Ende des Lebens gesehen werden muß, will ich über den Begriff des „Zwecklosen“, „Nutzlosenc“ oder der „Hoffnungslosigkeit“ in der Medizin sprechen. Oft meinen Ärzte, Krankenschwestern und andere Mitarbeiter im Krankenhaus, wie auch Verwandte schwerkranker Patienten, wenn sie sich überlegen, was man machen sollte: noch irgend etwas zu tun, sei „doch zwecklos“. Auch hört man oft, wenn „Ressourcenfragen“ diskutiert werden, daß man zuviel Geld verschwendet (das man anderweitig besser verwenden könnte), indem man viele an und für sich zwecklose Dinge tut.
