Zusammenfassung

Erste Ansätze, den pulmonalen Gasaustausch auch ohne periodischen Gas-volumenwechsel aufrecht zu erhalten, gehen auf das Jahr 1908 zuriick. Volhard führte bei Hunden eine „künstliche Beatmung durch Vorbeileiten von Sauerstoff an den oberen Luftwegen durch [24]. Diese Methode ermöglicht zwar eine ausreichende Oxygenierung, es kommt aber sehr rasch zur Ausbildung einer Hyperkapnie.
