Zusammenfassung
Biologische Systeme (Zellen, Gewebe, Lebewesen) deren Sauerstoffverbrauch (VO2) eine Abhängigkeit von Sauerstoffangebot [z. B. ausgedrückt durch den Sauerstofftransport (DO2)] in einem weiten Bereich zeigt, werden als O 2 -conformers bezeichnet. Ist der VO2 hingegen weitgehend unabhängig vom DO2 sprechen wir von O 2 -regulators [1]. Der Skelettmuskel ist ein typischer Vertreter der Gruppe der O2-conformers: ein VO2Plateau kann selbst für sehr hohe DO2-Werte kaum erreicht werden (Abb. 1). Mitochondrien und das Säugetiergehirn zeigen hingegen die typischen Charakteristika eines O2-regulators: die Respiration, d. h. der VO2 sind weitgehend unabhängig vom O2-Angebot (Abb. 2). Der O2-Verbrauch der Leber und auch der Gesamt-O2-Verbrauch des Menschen zeigen eine Abhängigkeit vom DO2, die zwischen derjenigen eines typischen O2-conformers und O2-regulators liegt: der VO2 zeigt bis zu einem kritischen Wert keine Abhängigkeit vom DO2, erst unterhalb dieses „kritischen DO2“ findet sich das Bild wie bei einem O2-conformers (Abb. 3). Dieser kritische DO2 wird bei gesunden Menschen mit 330 ml/min. m2 bzw. 8–10 ml/min. kg angegeben [2].
