Hypersonic flow of real gases with relaxation

A hypersonic high enthalpy wind tunnel with stagnation temperatures up to 14000 K has come into operation at the DLR Göttingen in February 1992. It may offer new possibilities to study high temperature effects with relaxation in high velocity flows. A survey is given of the expected behavior of such flows including relaxation effects at low density and new diagnostics methods for high temperature flows.
