Zusammenfassung
Der Positivismus der modernen amerikanischen Soziologie (Systemtheorie, Funktionalismus) brachte mehrere Gegenströmungen hervor: eine negativistische Kritik der Moderne, etwa Riesmans (1950) oder Marcuses (1964; vgl. Kap. 6.2.); und eine interpretative Soziologie, mit ihrer Betonung der „Subjektivität“ des Handelnden, der Zeitgebundenheit von Handlung und Erfahrung. Die Kritik der Trennung von Wissenschaft und Praxis in der positivistischen Soziologie wird im Aufdecken der politischen Prämissen des Umgangs mit Abweichung und sozialen Problemen demonstriert.
