Abstract
The heroin is the main hard drug of abuse among the illicit ones in Italy. The number of overdose episodes increase steadely year by year, indicating the danger of the phenomenon. The policy of several Authorities privileges drug-free treatment approaches and residential communities role while methadone programs still find a sort of ideological opposition.
