Zusammenfassung

Die Inzidenz des Prostatakarzinoms, d. h. jene Anzahl neuer Erkrankungen an Prostatakarzinom pro 100.000 Einwohner pro Jahr, liegt in den Vereinigten Staaten bei etwa 69 [1].Verbesserte Diagnostik und gesetzlich verankerte Krebsregister scheinen zur Zunahme der Prostatakarzinominzidenz beizutragen (Abb.1). In Österreich ist das Prostatakarzinom der zweithäufigste maligne Tumor bei Männern; bei über 65jährigen der häufigste (Abb. 2). Das Prostatakarzinom ist somit ein Malignom des älteren Mannes mit einem Gipfel im 7. und 8. Lebensjahrzehnt.
