Summary

Combined treatment with neuroleptics and carbamazepin. A controlled study. The clinical efficacy of the neuroleptics Haldol and Clozapine was studied in patients with acute schizophrenia, in a controlled trial lasting 35 days. Patients, whose psychotic state failed to show improvement after treatment for five days, received in addition 600 mg carbamazepine daily. Statistical analysis of the results showed that combination with carbamazepine does not improve the clinical efficacy of a standard neuroleptic to any marked extent.
