Summary

Operationalized diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia. Because of lack of reliability in psychiatric diagnosis operationalized diagnostic criteria with well defined inclusion and exclusion criteria have been established. With increasing number of definitions the question of validity emerges. Research has not been sufficient in this respect until now, the results of validation of diagnostic criteria on course, family-history, therapy response or biological variables are not conclusive enough to prefer definitely one of the diagnostic systems.
