Infections of the cervical spine are rare. Published incidences for cervical infections is 3 to 4% of all infections of the spinal vertebrae. All types of pathogenic microorganisms can cause cervical spine infections but Mycobacterium tuberculosis and the Staphylococcus aureus are the most frequent pathogens found.
