The objective of this chapter is to discuss the adverse effects of diabetes upon maternal and neonatal health in circumstances which together with diabetes could be responsible for pathological events during childbearing especially in the tropical and subtropical zones. The maternal mortality rate related to childbearing and delivery, as well as the perinatal (one week after birth) or neonatal (28 days after birth) mortality, remain distressingly high in these areas.
