Management of Urinary Fistulae

  • Robert F. Zacharin

Marion Sims (1852) classified urinary fistulae by their relative position dividing them into:
  1. 1.

Urethro-vaginal where the defect was confined to the urethra.

  2. 2.

Fistulae situated “at the bladder neck or root of the urethra, destroying the trigone.”

  3. 3.

Fistulae involving the body and floor of the bladder.

  4. 4.

Utero-vesical where the opening communicated with the uterine body or cervix—although he confessed he had never seen such a fistula.
