Proton and Deuteron Form Factors at Large Momentum Transfer

Two recent experiments at SLAC are described, one on electron-proton elastic scattering out to Q 2 = 31.3 (GeV/c)2, and another on 180° elastic scattering from the deuteron out to 2.7 (GeV/c)2. The proton data yield new values for the magnetic form factor G M p which are compared to predictions from perturbative QCD. Preliminary results from the deuteron measurement indicate the presence of a diffraction feature in the magnetic form factor B(Q 2) at high Q 2. Recent speculation on the neutron form factors at high Q 2 and the implications for experiment are briefly described.
