Spetzler (1978) and Scott (1978) were the first to induce experimental angioma-like conditions in cats (Spetzler) and apes (Scott). Based on his experimental findings, Spetzler described the factors that he thought to be relevant for complications after AVM surgery (“normal perfusion pressure breakthrough theory”).
