Prinicples of Ultrasound Doppler Sonography

  • Albrecht G. Harders

In 1943, Christian Doppler published an article with the title “Über das farbige Licht der Doppelsterne und einiger anderer Gestirne des Himmels” [49]. The frequency of light and soundwaves is changed if the source and receiver are in motion relative to one another. The frequency increases when the source and receiver approach each other and decreases as they move apart. This physical principle became known as the Doppler effect. Details of the life and work of Doppler have been presented elsewhere by Eden [53].
