Zusammenfassung
Die Involution des normalen Schilddrüsengewebes beginnt in der Regel nach dem 50. Lebensjahr. Dabei kommt es neben einem Rückgang der Schilddrüsendurchblutung zu einem Verlust an Kohoid und zu einer Abnahme des Durchmessers der Schilddrüsenfollikel (Sawin 1983, Gavack 1959). Das Wachstum der diffusen, besonders aber der knotigen Struma hält dagegen bis in das 6. und 7. Lebensjahrzehnt an, so daß das Gewicht der kropfig veränderten Struma erst ab diesem Zeitpunkt rückläufig wird (Oberdisse 1980, Wagner 1983).
