Intracranial dynamics have been of interest to scientists and clinicians for more than two hundred years. Descriptions of the factors governing the relationship between pressure and volume within a closed space such as the head have been the subject of a large body of both experimental and clinical investigation which has contributed much to our understanding of pathological states of increased intracranial pressure (ICP).
