Cranioplasty in Children

  • Dragoslav Stula

Abstract

The plastic closure of cranial defects in children confronts the neurosurgeon with special problems. Large and especially pulsating defects are not well tolerated by children, since the immaturity of the brain can hardly resist the continuous stress of locally changing pressure fluctuations [95, 158]. Moreover, neurologieal deficits caused by hemisphere compression can strongly influence the further development of the child (Figs. 70 a, b).
