History of Cranioplasty

  • Dragoslav Stula

Abstract

Trepanation is probably one of the oldest surgical interventions. It was already performed in the Stone Age [57, 109, 119]. First evidence of this came from a French doctor, Pruniéres, who found several prehistorical trepanated skulls in the Department Lozére in the south of France in the year 1873 [109, 119, 182]. Today, numerous similar observations have been registrated throughout the whole world.
