Experimental Basis for Free Muscle Transplantation

In our experimental research on free muscle transplantation in Uppsala we have systematically tried to follow the different steps of a graft’s course from a free muscle transplant to a functioning muscle. We have studied the transplanted muscle fibres, the revascularization and reinnervation of the transplants with histological, histochemical, electronmicroscopic and neurophysiological techniques. I will give you a short survey of our research with the emphasis on the reinnervation and the end-plate formation in the grafts.
