Abstract
The first order precision levelling in Switzerland includes about 3000 km levelling lines, which form 18 loops with an average of 220 km each. The first measurements were made from 1903–1925. Since 1943, 60% of the net has been successively measured a second time. The comparison of these two levellings shows vertical movements of the earth’s crust, since the Alps rise by up to 1.5 mm/year with respect to the Swiss plateau. An error analysis proves that these movements are in all probability significant. They are clearly shown in a graph. Also, various local measuring stations have been set up to prove movement specifically along fault lines.
