Material and Methods
After some preliminary experiments on rabbits of 3 different breeds, albinos (average weight 2 kg), hare rabbits (4 kg), and German giant greys (6 kg), the latter breed proved to be best suited to our purpose. As far as our specific experiments were concerned, the length of their sciatic nerves was the major advantage of those giant rabbits. Measured from the spinal nerve roots to the terminal plate, the mean overall length of this nerve was 399 ± 15 mm.
