Abstract

Recent studies on the cell organelle called microbody or peroxisome (depending on the investigators’ point of view) have accumulated a considerable body of information on this organelle of plant cells. A detailed account of the current state of knowledge on the morphology, biochemistry, and development of plant microbodies/peroxisomes as well as aspects concerning the integration of the activity of these organelles into the overall metabolism of plant cells are given in the preceding chapters. The intent of this final chapter is to summarize data on these various topics under predominantly generalizing points of view and to present some conclusions.
