Stereotactic Cryothalamotomy for Pain

Stereotactic cryothalamotomy was performed in twenty-four patients with severe “intractable” pain. In eighteen patients the pain was due to malignancy. Three patients had “central” pain following traumatic paraplegia, one suffered from anesthesia dolorosa, one had pain consecutive to lung abscess and another one causalgia.
