Late Results of Stereotactic Surgery of Epilepsy Predominantly Temporal Lobe Type

Abstract

On January 21, 1951 the Freiburg group (Hassler, Mundinger, Riechert) performed the first stereotactic operation for epilepsy 1, 4, 7. The case in question was a centrencephalic epilepsy. During the following years we performed 62 further interventions from a total of 5,120 stereotactic operations primarily in treating temporal lobe epilepsy while maintaining strict control of indications (Fig. 1).
