Abstract

One of the basic problems of clinical stereotaxis and, particularly, of the stereoneurosurgery of epilepsy is the individual variability of deep brain structures in man. Brain atlases available demonstrate limited anatomical material which does not enable us to make adequate statistical conclusions; the use of contrast x-ray graphical methods may, in our opinion, bring about only a partial solution. The indetermination of brain structures localization cannot be overcome by the most perfect stereotactic devices nor by using electronic computer for calculation purposes. This situation may well be helped by a new approach to a stereotactic atlas elaboration.
