Structural Questions in Quantum Field Theory

Abstract

You will realize that the title of my series of lectures arose from an emergency situation: I had to give a title at a time at which I was very uncertain about the choice of subject matter and style that would be most suitable to this meeting. After coming here and listening to a number of talks I was most fascinated by the aspect that physics, although it is commonly and justly classified among the exact sciences, draws very heavily in its development on undercurrents of a metaphysical nature and that there is a great diversity of those. To encounter several of them side by side in an unhurried atmosphere is perhaps the greatest benefit which the participants of this school may gain.
