Control of Lysis

Part of the Cell Biology Monographs book series (CELLBIOL, volume 1)

As lytic processes constitute an integral part of plant metabolism they must be rigorously controlled. In fact, the existence of control appears from a large number of studies in which the involvement of phytohormones and other factors in the regulation of cellular breakdown reactions is demonstrated. There is no doubt that in plant development the catabolic processes are as precisely controlled as are the anabolic. However, at the present time we are not yet in a position to recognize the totality of regulatory principles involved.
