Pathomorphology of Intravascular Coagulation Following Endotoxin Administration

  • U. Bleyl

A pathognomonic morphologic equivalent of endotoxic shock is presently unknown. For clinical pathologists the pathomorphology of endotoxic shock essentially is a pathomorphology of shock in general, that means the histomorphologic equivalent of a polyetiologic, acute hemodynamic insufficiency with generalized disturbances of the microcirculation and of blood distribution, resulting in decreased oxygen supply in the peripheral circulation and in metabolic acidosis (16, 20, 45).
