Geomechanical Models

  • Emanuele Fumagalli

A greater understanding of the mechanics of large rock systems has been shown to be of great moment in recent years in connection with the stability of foundations and underground excavations for major civil and industrial projects. However, without belittling interest in problems associated with the construction of large bridges, underground power stations, pressure tunnels and transport tunnels, it is worth noting that the study of and research into the stability of artificial hydraulic basins has time and again acquired an even greater relevance because of the importance that attaches to the safety of such structures.
