Synthetic Apatites: Applications

Part of the Applied Mineralogy / Technische Mineralogie book series (MINERALOGY, volume 5)

Previously it has been indicated that a carbonate fluorapatite (phosphorite) is the source of phosphoric acid, or in some cases elemental phosphorus. Some of the phosphorus is reconverted to apatite in its ultimate utilization, particularly as phosphors and as a scouring agent for dentifrices. To be sure, not all phosphors or scouring agents are apatites but these are important applications of synthetic apatites, and valuable information has been generated because of this economic importance.
