Coordination Chemistry of Certain Transition Metal Ions in Donor Solvents

  • Chapter
Coordination Chemistry in Non-Aqueous Solutions

Abstract

Consecutive replacement of solvent molecules by competitive ligands in the coordination sphere of class (a) transition metal cations has been followed by spectrophotometry, potentiometric and conductometric techniques. Perchlorates or tetrafluoroborates have been often used, allowing the metal ions to achieve hexacoordination by solvent molecules in the non-aqueous solutions; competitive (anionic) ligands were added to the solutions in the form of tetra-alkylammonium salts.
