Zusammenfassung
Reis wird auf Grund seiner vielen Varietäten und großen Formenmannigfaltigkeit unter den verschiedensten Boden-, Feuchte- und Temperaturbedingungen angebaut. Entwicklung und zeitlicher Wachstumsverlauf zeigen deschalb eine große Schwankungsbreite. Frühreife Varietäten haben in bestimmten Anbaugebieten eine Wachstumszeit von weniger als 80 Tagen, während spätreifende Formen eine Vegetationszeit von mehr als 200 Tagen benötigen. Wenngleich diese Unterschiede weitgehend erblich bedingt sind und entscheidend von der Tageslänge des Anbauortes bestimmt werden, so können sie auch durch die verschiedenen Anbaumethoden, den Zeitpunkt der Aussaat, durch ein Umpflanzen oder durch die Düngung stark beeinflußt werden. Die Möglichkeit einer Verkürzung der Vegetationsperiode besteht nicht bei allen Varietäten in gleichem Umfang. Einige Reisvarietäten reagieren auf hierauf ausgerichtete Anbaumethoden nur wenig, andere zeigen erhebliche Wachstumsdifferenzen. Die Auswahl einer geeigneten Varietät und Sorte hat deshalb für den Anbauerfolg eine entscheidende Bedeutung.
