Guidance and Control of “24-hour” Communication Satellites

Communication satellites will play an important role in astronautics. Although concepts for such systems are diverse, a number use satellites in equatorial “24-hour” orbits and require maintaining both satellite position and orientation. This paper discusses the functional requirements for guidance and control in such applications. It presents concepts for each guidance and control phase and describes their alternative realizations.
