Zusammenfassung
Als „Catechin“ wurde ursprünglich der kristallisierte Inhaltsstoff der Acacia catechu bezeichnet, der sich als ein Pentahydroxy-flavan (XII) erwiesen hat. Zuerst fanden sich stereoisomere Formen hinzu, später das hydroxylreichere Naturprodukt (XIII) und das hydroxylärmere (XI). Die Zahl der synthetischen Beispiele ist im Wachsen. Hier wird die gesamte Gruppe der Hydroxy-flavane behandelt. Einbezogen werden die Hydroxyflavene und das ihnen nahestehende Cyanomaclurin (XVIII, S. 15).
