Zusammenfassung
Ein typisches Randwertproblem der mathematischen Elastizitätstheorie ist die Aufgabe, die Spannungen im Inneren eines elastischen Körpers zu bestimmen, wenn die an seiner Oberfläche wirkenden Spannungen bekannt sind. Mathematisch führt diese Aufgabe auf ein System partieller Differentialgleichungen für die Spannungskomponenten, mit entsprechenden Randbedingungen (boundary conditions). Es läßt sich zeigen, daß diese Aufgabe eine eindeutige Lösung hat. Indessen sind verhältnismäßig wenige praktisch wichtige Lösungen durch direkte Integration der Grundgleichungen der mathematischen Elastizitätstheorie erhalten worden; indirekte und Näherungsmethoden haben den bei weitem größeren Teil der Lösungen geliefert, die in der Anwendung der Theorie auf technische Probleme benützt werden. Unter jenen Methoden, welche als „indirekt“ bezeichnet werden, ist Saint Venants halb-inverse Methode (semi inverse method) [1] vielleicht die wichtigste. Sie besteht darin, daß man die allgemeine Form der mathematischen Ausdrücke für bestimmte Spannungs- oder Verzerrungskomponenten ansetzt, welche noch gewisse willkürliche Funktionen oder Parameter enthält. Diese werden dann derart bestimmt, daß die Grundgleichungen der Elastizitätstheorie und, soweit als möglich, auch die Randbedingungen des betreffenden praktischen Problems befriedigt werden. Saint Venants Behandlung des Torsionsproblems ist ein gutes Beispiel für diese Methode.
