Zusammenfassung

Wohl auf keinem anderen Gebiet der Psychopharmakologie machen sich semantische Probleme so störend bemerkbar wie bei den Psychopharmaka, die je nach Autor und Gelegenheit als Tranquilizer, „Minor Tranquilizers“, Anxiolytika, Ataraktika, Sedativa-Hypnotika oder Hypnotika bezeichnet werden. In der Frühzeit der Psychopharmakologie wurden die Begriffe „Sedation“und „sedieren“ geprägt, die sich noch heute — wohl wegen ihrer Unschärfe und Unverbindlichkeit — großer Beliebtheit erfreuen.
