Abstract
A simple method to generate tunable ps laser pulses is described. A common Hänsch-type dye laser [10] is transversely pumped by a short UV-pulse of a TEA-N2-laser, The narrowband, tunable output of the dye laser has a pulsewidth of ≃ 85 ps and can further be shortened in a synchronously pumped amplifier cell. Tunable lightpulses of bandwidth Δλ = 0.04 nm and pulsewidth t ≃ 35 ps (FWHM) could easily be obtained within the tuning range 580–600 nm. Since, with this simple amplifier arrangement ultrashort lightpulses could be obtained over the whole visible spectrum, this method seems to be attractive for psspectroscopy applications.
