This paper discusses the implementation of an electronic product catalog (EPC) for a distributed environment. The implementation is based on a semantic description language which facilitates distributed information gathering, term translation and distributed management. The functionality of the proposed EPC is measured against the requirements imposed on tourist information systems which must cope with multicultural issues, both on the supplier and consumer side thus allowing the representation of individual features of information objects within the system.
