The algebraic approach to hadronic structure based on the algebra of U(4) to describe string excitations is briefly reviewed. Results for (q\(\overline{q}\)) configurations are presented. Work in progress to describe (qqq) and (qq\(\overline{qq}\)) configurations is also discussed.
