Abstract
The EDS machine is a high performance parallel computer system being developed as part of an ESPRIT II proyect. The database system for EDS is its main application and provides an extended relational system with object-oriented capabilities. One aspect which is crucial to performance is data placement. For several reasons existing data placement strategies are not ideal for the EDS system and a new approach based on two existing strategies will be used. This approach is presented here with some comparisons of its performance.
