Brain Edema Due to Ionizing Radiation
For this investigation we used twenty macaca mulatta, all about one year old. The heads were X-irradiated under Nembutal anesthesia. The dose was 2.700 r and the voltage 145 Kv at 19 mA. The brain was removed between one hour and six days after irradiation. Small fragments of white matter from the parietal lobe were submitted to OsO4 fixation, either directly or after prefixation with glutaraldehyde. These fragments were then embedded in Vestopal and observed in the electron microscope.
