Abstract

In writing this report, the authors have not attempted to elaborate the historical development of the subject as this aspect has been sufficiently dealt with in several reviews and in the monographs of Lettré and Inhoffen (1) and of Fieser (2). This report is concerned mainly with the progress in steroid chemistry during the past three years. It is the hope of the reviewers that the majority of the more important papers that have appeared during this period have been mentioned but space exigencies have necessitated in some cases a selection of material; where this has occurred, preference has been given to structural rather than biological aspects. Furthermore, with the object of clarity an account of work effected before 1935 has been included where this has had a direct bearing upon later researches.
