Résumé
La biochimie des acides aminés iodés et des iodoprotéines connaît depuis quinze ans un développement relevant de causes multiples. L’intérêt qui s’y attache demeure, avant tout, lié au fait que les deux produits hormonaux thyroïdiens connus: la L-thyroxine et la L-3 : 5 : 3′-triiodothyronine, sont des acides aminés. L’étude des dérivés halogénés de ceuxci se poursuit de plus en plus dans le cadre de celle des iodoprotéines, considérée tout d’abord comme secondaire, en sorte qu’un chapitre nouveau de la biochimie des protéines s’est peu à peu constitué à partir de travaux ayant conduit à l’identification des deux premiers acides aminés iodés naturels connus. La formation des hormones iodées par action directe de l’halogène sur les protéines et leur biosynthèse au sein de la thyroglobuline justifie l’intérêt de cette orientation des recherches, auxquelles l’emploi des isotopes radioactifs de l’iode, surtout d’I131, a ouvert de vastes possibilités techniques. Une importante revue (60) a été consacrée, en 1939, par Sir Charles Harington, à la chimie des composés iodés du corps thyroïde dans cette collection; elle y a été suivie en 1950 d’un article général sur la thyroxine et les combinaisons qui lui sont apparentées, dû à C. Niemann (112).
