Part of the book series: Advances and Technical Standards in Neurosurgery ((NEUROSURGERY,volume 1))

Abstract

During the past ten years, adult hydrocephalus has been the subject of extensive work, mainly due to a better understanding of CSF hydrodynamics. At the same time, the description of neurological disorders associated with hydrocephalus and normal CSF pressure, curable by a CSF shunt, has renewed the interest in therapeutics. The best known of these syndromes is the one described by Hakim in 196428, and called “normal pressure” hydrocephalus (NPH).
