Abstract
The surgical disciplines understandably resort to the biostructural sciences as their fundamental basis for the determination of technical and tactical aspects. Nevertheless, faced with the technological breakthroughs which now support surgical practice, pure science is often relegated to the background and its value in research and explanation is not fully appreciated.
